SCREENING 1 – GHANIAN SPOTLIGHT

Our first event, showcases the some of the wonderful talent from Ghana. We kick start the screening with ‘Just A Drop’ ‘ first public screening. This is followed by ‘Perceptions’ from director Alphonso Menyo. We then move on to a documentary, ‘Surf Ghana’ before returning to director William Owuso Amoah for his second short of the showcase, ‘Inside Out’. Winning the ‘Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival’ and also a finalist for the ‘BAFTA Los Angeles Student Film Awards’ is ‘Da Yie’. The event closes with the feature length presentation of ‘Gold Coast Lounge’, directed by Pascal Aka.

Just A Drop William Owuso Amoah

Coka drugs Naa with an intoxicant and it all goes wrong. Naa becomes unresponsive and Coka declares her dead.
Unfortunately for Coka, Naa’s ruthless brother is informed about his sister spending the night with him. In anger, Soja hurries to Coka’s place. Coka is tipped off about the imminent danger. He just doesn’t have to escape but must as well get rid of Naa’s body before her ruthless brother catches up with him. But Coka’s attempt to escape comes a little bit too late.
At the end of it all, Soja shows no mercy and pays Coka with a piece of his own coin. Duration: 00:06:43

Perceptions Alphonse Menyo

Melissa Ramos, a young Spanish lady who works with a multinational oil company in the West African country of Ghana, gets all the money she’s ever wanted but still feels unfulfilled. She later meets Adotey, a local fisherman and boxer, and realizes that in order to achieve true happiness in life, she needed to take certain actions. Duration: 00:12:35

Surf Ghana Olayinka Babalola

This is a documentary about the Ghana-based collective called the “Skate Gal Club”; an all female collective created to connect and empower girls and women in Ghana through skateboarding. Sandy Alibo, the founder of the Skate Gal Club takes us through the journey of the creation of this collective as well as enlightens us as to why starting this sort of project for women is so important now in West Africa more than ever. Inside Out William Owuso Amoah

Esi, 16, is an orphaned living with her uncle after the death of her parents. The roof which shelters her reminds the same roof she experiences sexual abuse at the hands of her rapist uncle. The constant rape leaves Esi in a tragic situation that keeps her mute about the whole situation. But she overcomes her fear of speaking out by telling her story through her passion for painting. Da Yie Anthony Nti

A foreigner in Ghana gets an assignment from his gang to find kids for a risky job that will take place later that evening. While spending the day with two energetic children, Prince and Matilda, he starts to question his decision and how it will affect their lives. Duration: 00:20:00
